Jonathan Scott Burgess

Jonathan Scott Burgess, 17, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday January 22, 2012. Visitation will be held at the Menard Cowboy Church on Wednesday January 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be Thursday January 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Cowboy Church with burial to follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. Jonathan was born December 7, 1994 in Austin, Texas to Joe and Pam Burgess. He moved to Menard with his Mother and older sister, Jessica in 1998. His loving step father Bill Baugh became a part of his life in 1999. Jonathan attended Menard public Schools and was a junior at Menard High School. He loved sports and received numerous awards. Most recently, he was named to the all West Texas football team for 2011. His love for baseball began early on playing catch in the back yard with his mom. He played little League in Menard and later with the Mason Pony League. His dedication and talent was recognized throughout his baseball career. In 2011, he was nominated to attend a Baseball Factory program in San Antonio which led him being one of two players invited to attend the Omaha National World Series. A talented athlete, he also received awards in track as a regional qualifier and in basketball as the District Newcomer of the year last season. Jonathan was a member of the West Texas Junior Championship Tour for several years earning medals in golf. He shared his passion for sports by coaching the fifth and sixth grade YMCA football team of Menard. Jonathan also participated in One Act Play earning All Star Cast and Best Actor recognition; He was a member of the Menard High School Band advancing to the state competition in both solo and ensemble. He served as the band's drum major his sophomore year. Jonathan was chosen as the Menard High School delegate to the 2011 Youth Leadership Seminar. He earned this honor for the outstanding leadership potential he demonstrated in school and community activities. Jonathan loved hunting and spending time with his family and many friends. Each year since Pre-Kindergarten he looked forward to wonderful trips with his special friend, Zac Gardner. He loved Music and used his talent to praise the Lord as the drummer for the Cowboy Church Praise and Worship Team. He enjoyed working with young children and was a lifeguard at the Menard Public Pool. Jonathan is survived by his adoring parents Pam and Bill Baugh of Menard, and Joe Burgess of Anniston, Alabama; his sister Jessica Burgess of San Angelo; brother Brody Baugh, step-brother and sister Zane and Whitney Baugh, and sister Kristina Burgess Tiemann of Buda, his proud grandparents Richard and Neve Gonzales, and Aubrey and Linda Baugh all of Menard , and Andy and Linda Stapp of Temple, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins including special cousin Caleb Gonzales, and precious nieces Kotie and Kylie. The family would like to thank the staff of Shannon Hospital and especially two wonderful nurses Bertha and Sandy, Jonathan's gifts to the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance will save lives and help to improve the lives of numerous recipients. Jonathan's life was a precious gift and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His amazing smile brightened so many lives. Jonathan I will love you forever My "Stinky Face" Love Mommy.
