Frances Elkins

Frances M. Elkins, 89, of Bertram, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba, Texas. Services to follow at 3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba. Interment at San Saba Cemetery. Frances was born on May 1, 1927 in San Saba, Texas to Calvin and Arline Daniel and was the oldest of six children. She was raised in San Saba and always proclaimed that it's the best place in Texas. On May 27, 1942, at the age of 15, she married Jesse E. Robbins, Sr. in Comanche County. During the war, Jesse and Frances went down to the shipyards to work. This is where Frances learned to ride a bike and got a job as a bike messenger. Jesse and Frances had two children, Carolyn & Jesse, Jr. To earn a living, they did custom combining all over the mid-west during wheat harvest time. They also went to Louisiana where they did the pecan harvest. It was Louisiana, just a few months after Carolyn got married that Jesse Sr. died of a heart attack. She got her LVN license and this was how she would earn her living the rest of her life. She worked for the Veteran's Administration first in Palo Alto, Ca before moving back to Texas to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She met her second husband, GW Elkins, where they both worked for the VA. They were married in 1970. Frances love for travel took her to many states during her lifetime. She has always loved animals. She is survived by her grandchildren: David Calley, Geneva Calley, Selena Calley Neal, Teresa Calley and Jason Robbins; seven great grandchildren; son-in-law Gordon Calley, daughter-in-law Margaret Robbins; step-sons: Louis Elkins and wife, Sheila, David Elkins and wife, Carolyn; brother: Ray Daniel; brother-in-law: Franklin Blomquist; step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both husbands; her children: Carolyn Robbins Calley and Jesse E. Robbins, Jr: her parents; brothers: Robert Daniel and Calvin Daniel, Jr.: sisters: Bonnie Daniel Blomquist and Helen Daniel and step-son Donnie Elkins. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and residents of Shady Shores of Bertram. Thank you for all you did.
