Elizabeth Yates Smith

Elizabeth Yates Smith was born on June 23, 1942 in Menard, Texas and peacefully passed away in her home with her children by her side on May 10, 2021 in Mansfield, Texas. She was the daughter of Pete Temple Yates and Nell Decker Yates. She graduated from Menard High School in 1960 and married Jerry Don Smith on June 30, 1962. She worked at Texas Tech and many law firms in Texas, as a legal secretary and para legal. The majority of her working years were for the law firm of Webb, Stokes and Sparks in San Angelo, for a short time in the 1960’s and then again from September 1, 1974 to January 31, 2002. She then moved to Mansfield, Texas to be with her children and their families and worked in various law firms in the Metroplex until her retirement. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Whitney Schkade (Jeff), Jennifer Paul and Jaden Smith. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Wilson Schkade, Parker Schkade, Elizabeth Paul Michener (Zac) and Katherine Paul, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Jo Lynne Harwell and her husband, James Edward, and number of other loving relatives and close friends, especially Katherine Allison King, Lauren Nicole Pettigrew, and special thanks to Beverly Ann Ray. For those who have known Elizabeth in her life journey with us, knew her as a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She spent many an hour at her children’s activities and then did the same for her grandchildren. Her life was dedicated to her family. She was a wonderful dancer and loved to waltz and two-step the night away. She also loved going to the Brazos River for many years with her family and friends. It was her happy place. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her In-laws George and Juanita Smith, her brother Temple Yates and her husband, Jerry Don Smith in January 2013. For those who knew and loved her graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. May 13, 2021 at Rest Haven Cemetery, Menard, Texas. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Elizabeth’s love of reading, donations to the Menard Public Library, 100 Mission St. Menard, Texas 76859 would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Menard.
