Brian David Hogenson

Brian David Hogenson was born on October 18th, 1988, his father's birthday. He was the first-born son to David Hogenson and Murlene Nollmeyer. A middle child in a family of seven children, Brian lived the typical life of a farm kid in beautiful Montana. His boyhood was spent running barefoot and free on the prairies of Eastern Montana or exploring the woods in the shadows of the Crazy Mountains. Slightly persnickety as a small boy, Brian insisted on wearing camo, his trusty toy gun, a winter jacket (in all seasons), and walking on his toes. Highly intelligent, Brian struggled to overcome a stutter when he was small because, as his father would say, "His tongue just can't keep up with how fast he thinks." Brian's constant playmates and companions were his brother Ben and his sister Bree. He loved to plan the games and Ben loved to execute his vision, normally making elaborate mini farming plots in their parent's flower gardens, their toy tractors working tirelessly from sun up to sun down. When Brian was 8, his younger brother Ben died in a farming accident, a tragedy that marked the family forever. Despite the heartache, Brian developed a carefree attitude toward life that made him especially endearing as an adult. Fiercely loyal to his sisters, Brian was known for loving unconditionally, forgiving quickly, and not holding onto grudges. A blue collar worker, Brian eventually found his way into the oil fields of the Mondak area of Montana and North Dakota, were he worked loading crude onto rail cars with his brother-in-law James. In 2011, Brian was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was treated with surgery and followup radiation. Though the recovery was hard, Brian's health was restored and he was able to return to his job. This job eventually led him to San Angelo, TX where he met the love of his life, Ashley Fanning. On April 23rd, 2016, they were married. Brian adored Ashley, and would get a foolish smirk on his face whenever he shared a story about Ashley. He told people that his love language was acts of service and his favorite thing to do was to take care of Ashley. Brian enjoyed guns, Star Wars, working with the local youth group, being a part of Knights of Columbus, and listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Unfortunately, Brian's cancer returned and he was treated for it and recovered again. But when it came back a third time, the doctor's gave him a terminal diagnosis. Ashley worked tirelessly by his side through the long weeks of care as Brian's body failed. She was there with him at every turn and exemplified what it means to love. Brian kept telling people that his goal was to live until his anniversary. And he did. On April 23rd, 2024, Brian David Hogenson left this life and all sickness behind forever. He was born on his dad's birthday. And he said goodbye on his and Ashley's anniversary. He is survived by his wife Ashley, his mom and dad (in-law) Beatrice and Brent Fanning, his partner in crime (sister-in-law) Elida Uvalle, his father David Hogenson, his mother Murlene Osburn, his sisters Druanna (James) Koester, Danielle (John) Long, Bree (Chris) Hill, Mariah Hogenson, Makayla Hogenson, half-siblings Shane and Shyanne Urbin, Grandmother Georgia Hogenson as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, & extended family. He is preceded in death by his brother Benjamin Hogenson, his uncle John Hogenson, his aunt Verna Dobraska, his uncle Don Nollmeyer, his grandfather Roy Hogenson, his grandfather Henry Nollmeyer, his grandmother Marilyn Nollmeyer. Visitation will be Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM, Funeral Service will be on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
