Mike Easterwood

Mike "Coach" Easterwood, 67, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015 in Brady, TX. Michael Joe Easterwood was born on June 18, 1948 in Brownfield, TX to Joel Douglas and Ruby Rosetta (Floyd) Easterwood Keith. He married the love of his life Connie Burklund on August 23, 1969 in Brady, TX. Mike and Connie were proud graduates of Angelo State University. He had a very extensive and successful coaching career, where he mentored the minds and souls of many young athletes across the great state of Texas. He started his coaching legacy in Robert Lee, then onto Devine, Mexia, Colorado City, Brady, Junction, San Saba, and finally retiring from Caldwell. Mike was blessed with the honor of getting to coach with his son, Shay, in San Saba and Caldwell. In order for the kids to differentiate between the coaches, they would often call him, "Old Coach", or "Papa Easterwood". Coach Easterwood had the ability to motivate and encourage each young life that he touched to be the very best that they could be in anything that they did. When he wasn't on the field or the court and could find the time he loved to go fishing with his family and friends. Family was always first and foremost in his life. His two beautiful granddaughters, Addyson and Emmerson, were his pride and joy, and they lovingly called him either, "Gee or Grandaddy". Coach Easterwood leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by all of the lives that he has touched. He was a beloved, Husband, Father, Grandaddy, Brother, Coach and Friend he will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know and love him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joel Douglas Easterwood and Ruby Easterwood Keith. Survivors include his wife Connie of Brady; son Shay Easterwood and wife Brandi of Brownwood, Billie Davis of Brady; sister, Pam Cavaness and husband Larry of Mason; two step brothers, Shane Keith and wife Laura of Mason and Carl Keith of Brady; one sister in law, Carrie Burklund; two granddaughters, Addyson and Emmerson Easterwood of Brownwood; two nephews, Doug and Chris Cavaness; one niece, Shelia Cavaness; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
