Shirley Burns

Shirley Ann Sanders Burns, 79, went to be with the Lord on July 30th in San Angelo. The funeral service will on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo at 11 am with Pastor Ryan Buck officiating. Internment will be at a later date at East Lawn Memorial Park in Early, TX. Shirley was born in Atlanta, GA on March 29, 1945, the first of three daughters to Watson Sanders and Mary Pearl Hatcher Sanders. She grew up in Warner Robbins, GA where she graduated from high school in 1963. She was married to Jack Wayne Burns, a Southern Baptist pastor on December 16, 1972 in Reedley, CA. She had one son, Donald Alan Burns, who was a great delight in her life. Shirley loved being a pastor's wife and never met a stranger. She loved to keep up with her friends from all over the country. She served in churches in Alameda, CA, Fresno, CA, El Cajon, CA, San Diego, CA, and Brownwood, TX as Children's Teacher/Director, church choirs, and children's choirs. She worked with Women's Ministries, loving the interaction with the ladies and with the varied ministries they were involved in. Shirley always seemed to be involved with putting a cookbook together, sharing recipes, biscuit making for workdays; and having and cooking for many visitors in their home through the years. She worked full time in the banking field in various locations in Brownwood, TX and San Diego, CA. Her last full-time job was at a large middle school in San Diego, CA for 15 years in the financial area. Survivors include her son Donald Alan Burns and his wife Valerie of Ft. Worth, TX, her grandson Kevin and his wife Veronica, and their sons Bryant and Clyde, her granddaughter Kayla and her husband Will, and their sons Judah, Everett, Oliver, and daughter Eleanor, and her sister Linda Steele of Rock City, NC. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wayne Burns, parents Tom and Mary Sanders, and her sister Nancy Nell Hayes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christian Motorcyclists Association's Run for the Son at cmausa.org in care of Marian Burns, member number 12,754.
