Richard Gonzales

Richard Delacruz Gonzalez was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 5th at 9:22 PM at the age of 76. Richard was born in Tankersley, Texas on February 21st, 1946, to Justo & Martha Delacruz Gonzales. He grew up in Mertzon where he would meet the love of his life, Geneva Mediano. They married in Big Lake in May of 1963 and began their lives together in Mertzon, welcoming their first child Pam, in December of 1964. Pam was soon followed by Ronald and the family moved to Menard where Richard began his position as a ranch foreman for Virgil Powell at Clear Creek. Their third child, Donald, was born, and 30 years of wonderful, joyful memories were made. Richard's career continued as he worked for many more years as a ranch foreman for the Rivers family in Menard County. Richard loved sports and enjoyed playing golf and baseball as well as supporting his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildrens many sporting events. He was an avid Menard Yellowjacket fan. Richard had a tremendous impact on his own children and the youth of Menard through his involvement in Menard Youth Baseball through the years. Richard spent many afternoons on the golf course developing lifelong relationships with his golf buddies. He will be remembered for his outgoing, friendly, and witty personality and his willingness to lend a helping hand whether just to repair golf cart or to open his home and heart to family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Pam Baugh, and his grandson, Jonathan Burgess. He is survived by his wife Geneva "Neve" Gonzales, and sons Ronald & Donald Gonzales, all of Menard. He is also survived by son-in-law Bill Baugh of Menard and sisters, Delores (Joe) Longoria of Birmingham, Alabama, Adele (Ben) Romo of Grape Creek, Texas, and Matilda (Alvin) Long of Wimberly, Texas. Richard's grandchildren include Jessica Balthrop (whom he proudly names), Caleb Gonzales, Whitney Baugh, Shae Gonzales, and Brody Baugh, as well as seven much loved great grandchildren & several nieces and nephews. Richard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Menard. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9th at Heritage Funeral Home in Menard with funeral services following on Thursday, November 10th at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and burial at Rest Haven. Pallbearers are Jeffrey Chestnut, Richard Hernandez, Abel Saucedo, Brent Bratton, Richard Garcia, and Andy Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers include Alan Stephens, Steve Rivers, and Roger Guerrero. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Menard.
