Marvin Joe Tucker

Marvin Joe Tucker Jr. was born in Quitaque, TX on June 19, 1935 and departed for his long-awaited journey to glory, joining his beloved Sue August 1, 2019, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his son, Dan and wife Beth of Hobbs, New Mexico, daughter Melinda and husband Ned of Pontotoc, Texas, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Marvin has a surviving brother and sister. As a youngster Marvin's family moved to Portales, New Mexico, where he met both the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, and his precious Sue. He was licensed as a preacher and married the love of his life, Sue, before the age of 16. He joined the navy and served in the Korean War in Korea, Japan and Guam, during which time he and Sue had a son, Daniel Joe, and a daughter Melinda Sue. While actively working on continuing his education, often working simultaneously in the private sector and pastoring churches, growing several from missions into churches in several states including Michigan, Texas and New Mexico. Many churches he helped to build new buildings with his own hands. Marvin and Sue both continued their education over the years and he completed his doctorate in theology. He served on boards from the Southern Baptist Convention to state committees in New Mexico. He had a particular talent for helping churches to grow while becoming financially healthy, getting out of debt. He loved Israel, sacrificing to make trips there and taking groups to share the places our Lord walked and taught while on earth. He officially served the Lord 50 years, but even after retiring filled in preaching where needed. (237) He loved fishing, boating, hunting, driving and camping in the mountains, keeping a beautiful yard and garden, and playing 42. He and his bride were young at heart sweethearts to the end, deeply devoted to each other and every day after her passing a year and a half earlier he longed to be reunited. The two made life-long friends everywhere they went, being described as "inspirational", "special, salt of the earth", "one of a kind". They are deeply loved and missed but we are rejoicing for them both to be able to be present with the Lord together!
