Maria DeAnda

Maria “Mary” Inez (nee: Perez) DeAnda passed away peacefully on Monday December 21, 2020. Mary was born January 29, 1927 to Jésus and Sylvestra (Aguilar-Rosas) Perez on a ranch in Vancourt, Texas. She married Martiniano (Martin) Perez DeAnda, Jr. on October 6, 1966. Mary was a devoted wife, godmother, mother, and grandmother. She moved to Menard with her parents around 1953. Mary attended school until 8th grade and then she went to work. Her first job was cleaning houses for different families in the area. She lived in Chicago for a while, working as a seamstress in a fashion boutique making dresses and bridal wear. After she married Martin, she was always a very hard-working woman, and she worked in the fields, up until baby Patricia wandered away from her one day. After that, she took care of small children in her home. Michelle and Veronica Coronado, among others. In the winter, she was known as the Tamale King and cooked deer meat turning it into tamales during the hunting season. The people always made the checks out to “Mary DeAnda, Tamale King”. The rest of the year, Mary would go to thrift stores and garage sales, find deals on excellent fabric or clothing and then recreate it to sell at her garage sales all summer. She made little purses, bags, aprons, potholders, skirts, blouses. Sometimes she would just repair things and then resell them. She would sew pillow sets, using quality fabric and trim. She would embroider the most beautiful pieces. Her neighbors would all come to see her new wares every other weekend, most all spring, and summer long. Mary loved to travel with her daughter and her family. Yosemite, Napa Valley, Bear Valley, whale watching, Disneyland, and San Francisco, numerous occasions. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Young of Bandera, Texas, Grandchildren Michelle Young of Los Feliz, CA; Jonathan Young and wife Gabrielle of Bandera, Texas. Collynn Young, and Samuel Young of Bandera, Texas. and Jacqueline Young of Twin Falls, ID. great-grandchildren; Chloey Young, Oliver Young, and Arizona Young all of Bandera, Texas. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister Frances Perez, half-sisters, Refugia Garcia, and Elvira Perez, half-brother Florentino Perez and other half siblings. Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2020 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Menard. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Cedar Creek Nursing Home, and River City Hospice of Bandera, Texas, and Ave Maria Hospice of Fredericksburg, Texas for all the loving care and support they have given Mary and our family.
