James Calvin Reavis

James Calvin Reavis, 83, of San Saba passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013. He is survived by his wife Pat, 3 Children; James Michael Reavis and wife Jo; John Kevin Reavis and wife Kelly; and Debra Jane Reavis Ellis. 3 Step Children, Stephen Paul Stripling and wife Kim; Susan Ann Sloan and husband Jeff; Charles Alan Stripling and wife Patricia. 6 Grand Children; Dana Ellis; Dane Ellis; Dee Dee Hernandez; Melissa Smith; Johna Reavis; Kolby Reavis. 14 Step Grand Children: Stevi Avery; Nikolas Stripling; Justin Manning; Christine Garrett; Christopher Stripling; Johnathan Stripling; Chelsea Stripling; Ashley Parsley: Jenna Sloan; Sara Sloan; Wil Sloan; Shelby Miller; Jason Miller; and Amanda Miller. Siblings, Ramonalene Hempel; G.D.(Gerry D.) Reavis; and Morris (Hooker) Reavis. James was born in Locker Community on June 9th, 1930 to Raymond and Arba Reavis. James attended San Saba Schools where he graduated 1949. He served in the Army Reserves from November 1949 until March of 1953, where he was honorably discharged. James married Pat on July 25th of 1980. He was a Member of the First United Methodist Church of San Saba. James served on many boards and organizations throughout his lifetime, and he achieved many awards and honors for his service in San Saba County. He was employed as City Manager for the City of San Saba for 33 years. James was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and served as chief twice; He and his wife Pat owned Reavis Sporting Goods for 20 years; He served as Rotary Club President as well as Secretary/Treasurer; While James served as the Chamber of Commerce President, he was voted Man of the Year; He served on the Board of Directors of the Central Texas Council of Governments; and was a member of the Pecan Valley Water and Waste water Association where he served as a 2 term President; James was appointed by Governor Ann Richards, as a representative of the private sector to the Central Texas Private Industry Council, where he served 2 terms; He served as the President of the Ex-Student Association; James served as the county chairman for the Salvation Army; and he also served as President of the San Saba Booster Club for 2 terms. As you can see James served his community to the fullest for many years of his life. James loved to be outdoors with his family whether it be, hunting, fishing or just helping to erect a barn with his son. James loved hunting in San Saba County, Norwood Colorado, and West Texas, he also was known to catch a few fish now and then, even in cold Alaska. Services for James Calvin Reavis will be held Friday, December 27th @ 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in San Saba with burial to follow in Locker Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26th from 6:00- 7:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba.
