Horace Roy Shahan

H. Roy Shahan, 88, of San Saba Texas, passed on April 29, 2015 at his residence. He was born May 13, 1926, in San Saba County to Horace William Shahan and Linnie Mae Shahan. He was always a friendly, talkative, open and happy person who loved gospel and country music. After his return from World War II, he met Patsy Nell. They were united in marriage on July 2, 1949. He purchased Huckabee Auto Parts from his boss in November of 1949 establishing Shahan Auto Parts which is now owned by his two youngest sons, Floyd and Johnie. Through the business he made many life long friends. He loved these friends like brothers. Beginning in the 60's he made trips to Colorado and New Mexico yearly seeking mule deer and elk, camping in the National forest with friends and family. Growing up along the San Saba River, he developed his love for swimming, fishing, and hunting with his sister, Hazel, and brothers, Ira and Jimmie. Being drafted into the Navy during World War II, his training was at San Diego, California. He served in the war from 1945 until 1947 aboard the LC1 (M) 1088. It was one of the smallest ships to cross the Pacific under its own power. The crew joked about receiving Navy pay ½ the time and submarine pay the other half. He learned to play golf on the San Saba Municipal Golf Course after it was built. He was an active member of Pecan Grove Baptist Church where he was the song leader for over 30 years. All the friends the children brought home for fishing and hunting on weekends were kept entertained by their Dad. They loved him and enjoyed coming back to visit him and Patsy. Roy is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Patsy; their four sons: Mike and Sherry Drake of Big Lake, Craig and wife, Susan, of Hondo; Floyd and wife, Billie, of Lometa; and Johnie Shahan and Betty Robinson of San Saba; and daughter, Teresa Sanderson and husband, Gary, of Fort Worth. Grandchildren include: Sheri Loika of San Angelo, Steven Shahan of Brownwood, Shannon Barton of Rhomes, Zane Shahan of Corpus Christie, Lacy McCandless of Austin, Josh Shahan of Lampasas, and Ryan Shahan of Lampasas. Great grandchildren include: Kage Loika and Kynison Loika of San Angelo, Noah Shahan and Kaiden Shahan of Lampasas, Vincent Shahan and Henry Shahan of Lampasas, and Waylon Barton of Rhome. He has one brother, Jimmie and wife, Adriane, of San Saba and a sister-in-law, Willie Mae Shahan of Lometa, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hazel M. Carr, and brother, Ira Shahan. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Pat Riley at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, May 1, 2015 following with interment in Harris Cemetery, San Saba County. Pallbearers are his grandsons: Steven, Josh, Ryan, Zane, David Barton, and great grandson, Kage Loika. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department. He never kept us from doing anything we wanted to do. He just wanted us to be true to ourselves and do what we thought was right. What a Dad! He will be truly missed. Thanks for the many, many years of laughs and happiness.
