Hazel Alliene Maner

Hazel Alliene Branscum Maner, 108, of Brady, Texas went peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, March 18, 2019 in Brady, Texas. Hazel was born on July 31, 1910 to James Dempsey Branscum and Mary Etta "Wall" Branscum. Services will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church and Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home Friday, March 23, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. She will be buried in the Live Oak Cemetery, Brady, Texas next to Clyde Maner. Hazel was only 3 years old when her mother passed away. Hazel was an only child and grew up with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Wall. Her grandfather was Sheriff of McCulloch County for 24 years. After graduation from Brady High School, Hazel taught Expression to local students. She married the love of her life, Clyde Maner of Brownwood. They were married in Mineral Wells, Texas. They settled in Brownwood, Texas where he was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber. His employment took them to Cleburne, Brownwood, Dallas, and Fort Worth. They settled on Lake Brownwood, where they loved to be outside and fish and entertain. Later in life, he was a real estate agent and broker. After his retirement, they returned to Brady to live in the house on South Willow Street. They owned a motor home and they both loved to travel. They were married fifty-four years at the time of his death. She was active in many clubs, The Twentieth Century Club, The Home Extension Club, The East Sweden Club, and the Travelers Club. She was a member of the Sunset Center Board, where she did volunteer work for more than twenty years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she attended Sunday school faithfully. She was member of the Mary Martha Circle. In 1997, Hazel received Brady's Distinguished Citizen Award; an honor accorded her father, J.D. Branscum in 1956. Hazel kept young by being active and loving life. She especially enjoyed all the activities organized by Tracy Pitcox. The trips and the musical adventures were a part of what kept her going, from the times when the ladies went to the radio station on Saturday nights to get the records out for Tracy to play, to faithfully listening on Friday nights to hear their special songs. She said many times, I love people and enjoy being with people. When her 100th Birthday was celebrated at Sunset Center, She drove herself to work in her 1983 Ford Escort with a standard transmission. After the party, Evelyn Pitcox walked with her to the courthouse so she could get her drivers license renewed. She passed with no problems. She outlasted the car by many years. Hazel loved the color purple, anyone attending service please wear purple.
