George M. Bruce

George Michael Bruce, 80, of Brownwood, TX passed away peacefully with friends & family at Brownwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in the afternoon on Sunday November 10, 2024. George Bruce (Mike) was a proud graduate of Brownwood High School in 1962. After graduation he resided the remainder of his life in Brownwood, TX where he provided years of service in the retail food industry including "Buddies" and "JRB" stores. He also worked at TWT Molding, Howard Payne University, and various other businesses throughout his lifetime. George was talented in his particular interests of art and photography. He loved flower gardening, cooking, interior decorating and design, music and dancing, animals, and participating in church and church activities in the Brownwood community. He enjoyed serving and helping people. He was always available to help friends and family with moving, cleaning, and other needed tasks. He especially enjoyed going places and meeting people, and providing help to others less fortunate to get them back on their feet. George was funny, kind, a good friend, loving son, and caring brother and uncle. George Bruce was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Davis Bruce (1979) and father, Marvin Loyd Bruce (2004). He is survived by two (2) siblings, Stephen Loyd Bruce of Brownwood, TX and Lisa Diane Bruce (Allen), PhD of Fort Worth, TX; a nephew, Samuel Wyatt Allen, Marine Corps Private First Class of Fort Worth, TX, and cousin, Robert Kelly Lewis of Temple, TX. Services will be held in Brownwood at Davis Morris Funeral Home on Tuesday November 19, 2024, at 10 am with a viewing for friends and family from 5-8 pm on Monday evening November 18. After the Brownwood Services, Mr. Bruce will be laid to rest next to his mother and father and near his grandmother and grandfather at the Hill Crest Cemetery in Temple, TX after a brief grave site service at 3pm. The family wants to especially thank Mark Singleton of Brownwood, TX, for his years of dedication, support, and friendship to George and the family, and as caretaker, and spiritual advisor. Special thanks also to the Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation team, Hospice Services, and all friends that stayed in touch with George over the last several years.
