Ellen Nora Thompson Doyal

Ellen Nora Thompson Doyal of San Antonio, Texas was born December 19, 1943 in Brady, Texas and died in San Antonio, Texas January 1, 2018. Ellen was a fifth generation Texan, the daughter of Ben Claud and DeLila Mary Blauvelt Thompson. Her father, a native of Brady, graduated from Texas A&M College, class of 1923. Ellen graduated from Rochelle High School. After graduation from the University of Dallas in 1966 with a BA in Secondary Education, she married Sidney Ray Doyal, Texas A&M University, class of 1966. The couple married in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Brady, Texas June 11, 1966. Ray is the son of Elbert and Blanche Bratton Doyal of Mercury, Texas. Ray and Ellen moved to San Antonio in 1967 where they raised their three children. Ellen was a full time mother and held various part-time jobs, the last as an adult education English as a second language instructor. For Ellen, being able to interact with students from different countries, cultures and ethnicities was the ideal job. She welcomed any opportunity to travel and meet new people. To celebrate fifty years of marriage, Ray and Ellen spent three weeks in Ireland and visited the Campbell homesite in Donegal that her family left in 1848 to come to Texas. Ellen is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ray Doyal. Ellen's greatest pride was her children and their families. Her children are Laurie Doyal Lampman and husband Rusty of Marion, Texas; Julie Anne Doyal Umscheid and husband Greg of Portland, Oregon; and Philip Doyal and wife Christina Browder Doyal of Frisco, Texas. Ellen was a dedicated grandmother and joyed in her seven grandchildren: Sydney Umscheid Smejkal of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Jacob Lampman of Alpine, Texas; Rutger Umscheid of Portland, Oregon; Aaron Lampman of Marion, Texas; Chloe, Keagan and Peyton Doyal of Frisco, Texas. A visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm Friday, January 5 at Heritage Funeral Home in Brady, Texas and a service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 6 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Brady, Texas. Donations can be made to Catholic Relief Services, Richards Memorial Library in Brady, Texas or any charity of your choice.
