Thomas Morin Ruiz

Thomas Morin Ruiz, 91, of Austin, Texas formerly of Brady, Texas entered his Heavenly Home on Saturday, March 2, 2019, in Austin. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with rosary to follow from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brady, Texas with Father Bhaskar Mendem officiating. Thomas Morin Ruiz was born on December 29, 1927, to Luis Ruiz and Dionicia (Morin) Ruiz in Brady, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Brady, with a second home in Austin. Thomas married the love of his life, Lydia Lara, on December 27, 1952, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in San Angelo, Texas. They spent 52 wonderful years together and had three children, a son, Albert, and two daughters, Norma and Mary Alice, of whom he was very proud. Thomas a devoted Catholic shared his beautiful voice with the St. Patrick's choir for many years while in Brady. Thomas used his musical talents to coach his grandchildren, Aaron and Joaquin, in the playing of the violin and the clarinet. Thomas was a well-loved and highly respected man of faith and hope who never came across a stranger and was always willing to help others to the best of his abilities. He assisted in launching the Father's Day Campaign at AGE of Central Texas in Austin, Texas. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and spent much time playing golf and fishing. He cherished his grandchildren, Andrew James Morris, Margaret Leigh Morris of Reston, Virginia, and Aaron Murillo-Ruiz and Joaquin Murillo-Ruiz of Austin. Aaron and Joaquin lovingly hew their grandpa as "Tom Cat". Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Lara-Ruiz: his parents, Luiz and Dionicia Ruiz: two sisters, Louisa Castro and Katherine Montez; and two brothers, Raymond Ruiz and Joe Ruiz. Thomas is survived by his son, Albert, and wife, Rosamaria of Austin; two daughters, Norma Ruiz Morris and husband, Jim of Reston, Virginia and Mary Alice Ruiz of Austin: two sisters, Veronica Ruiz Castro of Brady and Rita Velez of Irving; four grandchildren, Andrew James Morris, Margaret Leigh Morris, Aaron Murillo-Ruiz, and Joaquin Murillo-Ruiz: and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Chris Clymer, Jim Morris, Aaron Murillo-Ruiz, Joaquin Murillo-Ruiz, Robert Montez and Pedro Murillo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Thomas' name to the Brady Senior Citizen Center or AGE of Central Texas in Austin, Texas.
