Martha Roe Terry

Martha Roe (Moore) Terry was born on December 29, 1919, in San Saba, Texas, to Bill Moore and Lurline Roquemore. She was the oldest of 5 children, Bill Moore (Reba Nell), Constance "Conk" Moore, and Donald (Arden) Moore and Paul, who left too early as a child. She passed on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the age of 98. Martha Roe married Lloyd Warden Terry on September 14, 1941. They lived happily until his death on February 22, 2001. They had 3 children, William "Billy" Terry (Judy), Rocky Terry (Loydene), and Sharon Reeves (Henry). They also had 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Martha Roe loved socializing and was a member of numerous clubs throughout her life. She belonged to the Pierian Study Club, Sew N Sew, Baptist Women's Mission, Country Line Dancers, Red Hat Society, Garden Club, and Simpson Creek Home Demonstration Club. She also worked with friends at the library for many years. She enjoyed gardening and flower arrangement, owning Terry Flower Shop before retiring from it in 1966. Her green thumb extended to just about every plant she set her mind to growing, including her treasured orchids and ivies. She could throw bulbs out in her flower beds, and they would somehow take root and grow for years with no care. Martha Roe loved being outdoors. She and Warden raised everything from chickens to cattle, including a white buzzard and several other critters that the kids would bring home. Fishing was a passion of hers and she and Warden kept the tanks well stocked with catfish and bass. She also loved deer and dove hunting, never missing a season until she was about 80 years old. My goodness, she could cook backstrap, biscuits and gravy with the best of them. She also could make a mean roasted goat. Being outdoors was not her only passion. She loved sewing and quilting. She could make clothes including prom dresses. Her quilts were almost all hand stitched until she decided that having the machine quilt them wasn't cheating as much as it was just a good idea. All of her grandchildren have a customized quilt that she designed just for them. She would spend months on these quilts and her fabric collection probably includes fabrics from back in the 1950s on. "You just can't find these prints anymore!" was her excuse for her many fabric shopping sprees. She loved her coffee cup that said, "She who dies with the most fabric wins!" Needless to say, she won. Martha Roe was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her siblings, and her son Billy. She leaves a rich history of quilting, crafting, painting, sewing, fishing, hunting, cooking, and having a stubborn streak. All were readily taught to those willing to learn (except the stubborn streak, that was in her genes). The family wishes to extend their thanks to Peggy Smith, Georgia Harris, and Maria Baez for their hard work and love shown to Martha Roe in these last months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the San Saba Fire Department and the Franklin Graham Samaritan Purse.
