Jack Lee Kothmann

A celebration of the life of Jack Lee Kothmann, born April 2, 1949, and went to be with his Lord December 29, 2015. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Jamie and June Kothmann and sister Joretta McAllister. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 14 years Sandy Kothmann. His son Jud and wife Adi and their children Briana, Adrian, and John Paul; son Joe and wife Lisa and children Kallin and Makinley. His brother Jay Kothmann and wife Ann; nephew Wylan McAllister and family, Niece Kristen Beggs and family, special family and friends, Ronnie Huntley and family, Zane Huntley and family; Amy Bannowsky, and Jason Gibbs. Jack adored his 15 grandchildren, 3 nieces and nephews. Jack loved to fish especially for red fish, he always knew the best spots to catch a mess of them. He loved hunting especially calling turkeys; he was awesome at it and a great shot. Another interesting fact about Jack was that he had a fear of heights. Jack would help anyone who would let him and had an opinion about everything and did not mind sharing it. He was a staunch 4-H supporter, a great athlete who played tennis and helped raise funds for the tennis courts on the MHS South hill. He coached little league and pee wee baseball, as well as some little dribblers. Jack loved watching kids compete in athletics. He believed athletics taught very important life skills like building friendship, teaching responsibility, and how to accept defeat or victory with dignity and compassion. He served on the school board to ensure the youth of Menard had the best teachers, coaches, and administration the district could afford. Jack studied Agriculture and chemistry at Sul Ross University. That must have been when he discovered he was the only one who really knew how to cook. He was a great reader of literature and then became a student of the Bible. Jack worked with animals most of his life and developed a great affection for horses. It seems he knew how to horse whisper with an iron hand. He was a great family man and if you made him your friend he was one to ride the trail with, if he did not aggravate you to death before you reached your destination.
