Billie Lawrence Cates Billie Lawrence Cates, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 9th, 2017 at the age of 83. Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11th, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Masonic Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, February 12th, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Cherokee Cemetery located on Hwy 16 in Cherokee, TX. Billie was born on August 10th, 1933 to W.I. Cates and Anne Gertrude (Parisher) Cates in Cherokee, TX. He spent his younger years growing up in Cherokee where he graduated from Cherokee High School. On March 14th, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Simon in Cherokee. This wonderful marriage lasted nearly 64 years at the time of his passing on February 9th, 2017. Together they were blessed with three beautiful children. Billie was a Master Mason for over 50 years. He was an active member of District 71 and Camp San Saba Lodge #555 located in McCulloch County, TX. Billie was a Korean War Veteran where he served in the Army as a SP-4 rank. He worked 15 years for the City of Austin Water and Wastewater Dept. Once he retired he spent many hours with family and friends. He had an incredible sense of humor and was known for making everyone around him smile. He was an amazing person, father, "Papa" and husband. His smile, laughter and love will be missed by everyone that knew him! He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Cates; 2 Sons, Billie Lawrence Cates, Jr. ( Larry), wife Jean of Georgetown; Dewayne Allen Cates, Fiancé, Teresa Yarbrough of Axtell; 1 Daughter, Vicki Ann Osborn of Austin; Nine grandchildren; Billie Cates III, Wesley Cates, Angela Haar, Derick Cates, Dillion Cates, Colby Lyon, Carson Cates, Judson Lee Osborn, Christopher Dale Morris; 14 Great-Grandchildren as well as 1 Great-Great Grandchild and another one due any day. He is preceded in death by his parents, W.I. and Anne Gertrude Cates; Brother, James Cates and one Grandchild, Denise Daniels.
