Sylvia Jean Yates

August 28, 1943 - January 24, 2022

Sylvia Jean Yates, 78, of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away at her residence on January 24, 2022. Sylvia was born on August 28, 1943, in Lunenburg County, Virginia where she was raised with several brothers and sisters. She met Robert Yates when they were co-workers at a trucking company in Omaha, Nebraska. She married Robert in January of 2000, twice actually, once in Robert’s home state of South Dakota, and again in Las Vegas. For their first seven years of marriage Sylvia and Robert resided and traveled the country in a fifth wheel, working in various state parks. After this, they lived in Omaha, Nebraska until 2009, moving to Copperas Cove twelve years ago. Sylvia lived a full and interesting life. She was raised in a very rural setting in the Appalachian hills of Virginia in a two-room house. She and her brothers and sisters were separated from each other at a very young age. She eventually ended up in an orphanage and was encouraged to pursue fields in the beauty industry, and even attended a charm school. Various employments ensued, such as being a beauty operator, waitress, truck driver, security guard and bartender. She was a truly southern girl. Sylvia was of the Southern Baptist faith. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Robert Yates of Copperas Cove, one son, one daughter, one granddaughter and one great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. There are no formal services scheduled for Sylvia. Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Lampasas.
