Dorothy Swaringen

October 23, 1937 - November 22, 2021

On Monday November 22, 2021, Dorothy Nell Bailey Swaringen, 84 of Fort Worth, went home to be with Jesus. Born October 23,1937, she was the eldest daughter of Dr. Eldon and Lois Bailey of Fort Worth. Dorothy attended Abilene High School before attending Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, where she was part of the HSU Cowgirls. She was active in both her community and church. She worked as a middle school history teacher with FWISD for thirty-eight years and continued to substitute into her 70's. She served her church on the hostess committee and teaching 10th grade girls Sunday school for over twenty years and in her later years joining the Travis Praise Singers. She loved watching Fox News, old movies, and football. She will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother,r and great grandmother. She is survived by her brother Harold Bailey and wife Dianne of Plano, sister Bonnie Sides of Brownwood, Son John Swaringen and wife Didi of Fort Worth, Daughter Melanie Hampton, and husband Cliff of Fort Worth. Also surviving are her grandchildren Joshua Swaringen of College Station, Ashley Conner and husband Sargent Cody of Colorado Springs, Chelsey Gailey of Cisco, Maggie Cromer of Alvarado, Ke'Ston Hampton of Fort Worth, Kynleigh Hampton of Fort Worth and Gunnar Hampton of Fort Worth. Great grandchildren Stayden, Hailey, Zoe, Jade, Carter, Laken, Crue and Kaesyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by son Jason Swaringen, parents Dr. Eldon and Lois Bailey, brother William Bailey, nephew Joe Scot Bailey and brother-in-law Dale Sides. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses who worked so tirelessly and lovingly to care for Dorothy over the last eleven months. We also would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who sent cards to Dorothy and all of you who are here today to celebrate the joy Dorothy brought to everyone she met. Services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, December 2, at the Travis Avenue Baptist Church with her brother, Harold Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until 12:30 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth. Services entrusted to the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Davis-Morris Chapel in Brownwood. Friends and family are encouraged to view the online memorial at www.heritagefuneraltx.com.
